About the #toonplay IRC channel

At the heart of Toonplay is our IRC channel (chat room) #toonplay, on the WTnet IRC network. Point your favourite IRC client at irc.wtower.com on port 7000 or 6667 (see your client's manual for more information).

The channel is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Some times are busier than others; as the majority of our members live in North America, the channel starts to become more lively from around 6pm Eastern/3pm Pacific/11pm GMT. Feel free to drop in at any time!

If you have any problems connecting, please email me, DavidMouse, at mousie@waxwolf.com.

Rules

We're pretty laid back, but we do expect a certain level of etiquette from our members. Follow our small set of unwritten rules (given in handy written form below) and you'll be fine. Unless we just don't like you.

* Please! No spam! Especially spammy scripts. If you want to share a big block of text with people, it's much better to send it to them privately (Most IRC clients have a "Query" option). If you really have to share something, make sure you warn everyone. Please don't use sounds either. If you can't think without mindless noise, perhaps you should put your favorite album on your CD player.

* Absolutely NO warez, fileservers, porn etc. Unless it's really good porn... No! Not even then.

* Also to avoid: Age/sex/location checks. We're roleplaying characters, so this is pretty irrelevant. There are far better channels for chatting up "female high school girls from California", who invariably turn out to be big hairy men from Arkansas anyway. As a guide, most of the regular members are in their late teens or 20s, and come from all corners of the world.

* This is a roleplay environment! Discussion about real life events, computers, politics, etc take second priority to any roleplay taking place. If a channel member feels that conversation between others is out of place, he or she (or it or sie) can request that the conversation be moved to private chat or a more appropriate environment. If the request is not honoured in a reasonable amount of time, and the channel operator is in agreement, a private message will be sent to this effect. If both requests are ignored, channel operators will kick the offending parties. If users repeatedly ignore warnings, a ban may be placed.

* If a channel operator refers you to this page, it is in order to give you a better understanding of how the channel works. Please do not assume that you are not welcome because people are not talking when you join the channel, or if they seem absorbed in their own conversations. Most of the members have known each other some time and so may discuss things you don't understand. Some members frequently talk about things nobody understands (except perhaps the voices in their heads). Please take time to read through this page to get an idea of how the channel works before complaining.

* Please don't beg for ops. When we get to know and brainwa-- trust you, you'll probably get them anyway.

* Please make every effort to type correctly. "RU" and "are you" take about the same amount of time to type and the second makes you look like much less of an uneducated git. Remember, a fast typing speed is good for future employment!
